Walking pad keeps stopping or tripping the breaker
Three different problems arrive wearing the same sentence. Sorting them takes one question - when exactly does it stop - and it changes what you should do next.

Stops under load (as you step on or speed up) = friction, belt tension or capacity, and the machine protecting itself. Stops at random = the power path or the remote, not the motor. Takes the breaker with it = the circuit, shared with something else that draws heavily.
One question sorts it
“My walking pad keeps stopping” covers at least three unrelated faults, and the diagnostic question is simply when:
- Under load— when you step on, when you raise the speed, when a heavier person uses it. That is a mechanical or capacity problem, and on a KingSmith machine it usually comes with a code.
- At random— mid-walk, no pattern, sometimes before you have started. That points at the power path, the remote or the receiver.
- With the lights— the breaker goes and other things on the same circuit die too. That is a circuit problem and the machine may be entirely healthy.
Work out which one you have before changing anything. All three get the same generic advice online and only one of the three fixes is relevant to you.
It stops when you step on or speed up
This is the machine protecting itself, and KingSmith publishes two codes that say so directly: E05 overcurrent protection and E06 motor protection. The full published code list.
Our reading of what raises current draw — and it is ours rather than the manufacturer’s — is anything that makes the belt harder to turn:
A dry deck. Lubrication is the one maintenance task every maker in this category documents, and friction between belt and deck is exactly the load a motor has to overcome. If the machine has run for months without lubrication, start here. What lubrication actually involves.
A belt tensioned too tightly. Over-tightening is the usual overcorrection after a slipping belt, and it loads the rollers and the motor continuously. Tension against tracking, and the order to adjust them.
Grit under the belt. Carried in on shoes, it grinds between belt and deck. A mat under the machine and indoor-only shoes are the two cheap preventions. What a mat does and does not do.
A load near the published capacity. Published capacities across this site run from 220 to 300 lb, and the figure is a limit rather than a target. If the machine cuts out only for the heavier person in the house, that is the specification talking. Every published limit in one table.
The cheap thing to rule out first
If the machine cuts out under load and has never been lubricated, that is the first thing to change and the least expensive. We have not used this item - check your own manual for the silicone type and the interval it specifies before applying anything.

The catch: Your manual is the authority on quantity and interval, not this page and not the bottle. It stops at random, or will not start
No pattern, no relationship to speed, sometimes it will not start at all. Work through these in order, cheapest first:
1. The remote battery. On most machines in this category the remote is the entire control surface. A flat cell presents exactly like a dead machine, and it is a two-minute check. What still works when the remote does not.
2. A different wall outlet, directly. Not through an extension lead, not through a surge strip shared with a monitor and a printer. Motors draw a surge at startup, and a marginal connection shows up as an intermittent stop rather than as a clean failure.
3. The ten-minute power-off.KingSmith’s published procedure for any code beginning with E is to power off for about ten minutes and restart, noting that the fault may have been caused in transit. Worth doing properly and once, rather than a dozen quick power cycles.
4. The fold, if it folds.A machine that folds in half has to stay connected across the hinge. Unfold it fully, make sure it is flat and seated, and try again — particularly if the machine has just been moved, and particularly if you are seeing a communication error.
If it survives all four and still stops unpredictably, that is a support conversation. Nothing electronic in these machines is user-serviceable and no maker on this site publishes a parts catalogue. The warranty terms, which are shorter than most people assume.
It trips the breaker
If the breaker goes and other things on the same circuit die with it, the machine is probably fine and the circuit is the problem. Two numbers explain almost every case.
1,800 watts.A standard US 15 amp, 120 volt branch circuit supplies at most that, and it is shared by every outlet on the circuit — which in an older apartment may be most of a room.
The startup surge. A motor draws more current at the moment it starts than while it runs. That is why the trip so often happens exactly as you press start, and why it happens when the kettle, the space heater or the hair dryer is also on.
The fixes are all free: move the pad to an outlet on a different circuit, do not share with a heater, and start the pad before you start anything else that draws heavily. If the breaker trips with the pad as the only load on the circuit, stop using it and contact the manufacturer — that is outside anything you should be diagnosing at home. The order to work through it
Cheapest and most reversible first, which also happens to be the order of how often each one turns out to be the answer:
- Change the remote battery.
- Plug into a different wall outlet, directly, on a different circuit.
- Power off for ten minutes and restart, per the manufacturer’s published procedure.
- Unfold the machine fully and make sure it is seated flat.
- Lubricate the deck if it has not been done recently.
- Check belt tension and tracking, in that order.
- Check the user weight against the machine’s published capacity.
- Note the exact error code and contact the manufacturer with your serial number.
Stop before the end of that list if there is a burning smell, smoke, a housing that is hot rather than warm, or a new grinding noise. Those are not troubleshooting states. Which noises mean stop.

Why does my walking pad keep stopping?
Sort it by when it happens. If it stops at random with no pattern, suspect the power path or the remote before the motor. If the room goes dark with it, it is the circuit rather than the machine.
Why does my walking pad trip the breaker?
A standard US 15 amp, 120 volt branch circuit supplies at most 1,800 watts, shared by everything else plugged into it. A motor also draws a surge at startup that is higher than its running draw. If the pad shares a circuit with a heater, kettle, microwave or hair dryer, the combined load can exceed what the breaker allows — which is a circuit problem rather than a fault in the machine.
Should I use an extension lead with a walking pad?
Prefer a wall outlet directly. If you must use a lead, check its rating and do not daisy-chain it — a motor's startup surge is exactly the load a thin or overloaded lead handles worst. Swapping to a direct outlet is the single cheapest diagnostic step for a machine that cuts out intermittently, and it costs nothing to try.
My walking pad stops when I walk faster. Why?
Speeding up increases the force needed to turn the belt, and anything already adding friction — a dry deck, an over-tight belt, grit under the belt — compounds it. KingSmith publishes two protective codes for exactly this situation: E05 overcurrent protection and E06 motor protection. The machine is stopping itself on purpose, and the fix is to reduce the load rather than to keep restarting.
How do I reset a walking pad that has cut out?
KingSmith's own published guidance for any code beginning with E is to power the machine off for about ten minutes and then restart it, and it notes the fault may have been caused in transit. Ten minutes rather than ten seconds. If the machine cuts out again in the same circumstances, treat that as information about the load or the circuit rather than as a reset to repeat.
Could the remote be the problem rather than the machine?
Often, yes. On most walking pads the remote is the only control surface there is, so a flat battery or a receiver that has lost pairing presents exactly like a machine that will not start or that stops responding. Change the battery before you conclude anything about the motor — it is the cheapest thing on this list to rule out.
